BI-WEEKLY FISHING REPORTS

AUGUST 18, 2007

FALL IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!

It was 49 degrees at the house this morning, a sure sign that fall isn't too far away. For many people that means it's time to close up the camps and get the kids back to school. But for some of us it means awsome fishing and walks in the woods to visit our favorite deer thickets or partridge cover.

The fish seem to be concentrated in schools around the typical structure, rock piles, logs, weeds. Throwing the same lures that have worked all summer will continue to work. A weightless texas rigged worm has been my favorite all summer and it is still catching lots of fish. Green pumpkin and the variations thereof have been the most successful.

Salmon and trout are still down deep, in the 40-50 foot range, but with the cooler temps coming, they will soon be back up on the surface. Jim Warner was in yesterday and was saying that orange colored lures and spoons have been working the best. He has been trolling an orange colored fly and has been doing well. Purple has also been a top producing color. The Rainbow Slayer brand flutter spoon with purple on one side and orange on the other has taken a fair number of fish.

The fly fishing will soon pick back up once the water temps cool off a bit and the fish become more active before fall. Trout can still be found in small pockets along the rivers and streams if your willing to put in the leg work. Bright colored wet flys have always been my favorite for late summer trout. Try a professor, fish can't seem to get enough of that yellow body.

Good Luck Fishing!
